County of Ventura Active Transportation Plan
The County of Ventura is developing an Active Transportation Plan (AT Plan) that will be a roadmap for the implementation of pedestrian and bicyclist facilities within the County’s unincorporated communities. The AT Plan builds upon existing planning efforts and the existing infrastructure to create a safe and convenient active transportation network that connects people with jobs, goods, services, and public transit networks without the use of an automobile. Ventura County’s General Plan highlights the need for an AT Plan to help implement the larger countywide goals of improving public health and reducing environmental impacts from vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The AT Plan also includes a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) component, in which 35 schools will be reviewed for bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
The development of this plan is funded in part by the FY 2020-21 Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Program. The AT Plan is now entering the public outreach and engagement phase, expected to last until November 2022. The final AT Plan is expected to be presented to the Board of Supervisors in early 2023.
The County welcomes you to collaborate in the planning process by sharing your experiences and ideas for improving walking and biking throughout the County of Ventura’s unincorporated communities. You can visit the AT Plan website atplan.vcpublicworks.org to leave feedback on the public input map, take the community survey, and stay up-to-date on upcoming events.
