Today we remember Rudy Gonzales, a generous, one-of-a-kind man who serviced the County of Ventura for over 35 years.
Born in Ventura and one of twelve children, Rudy had a heart of gold and loved his family more than anything. Kind, generous, thoughtful, hardworking, funny, and helpful, are just a few of the words used to describe the benevolent presence Ruby had.
“Rudy did an outstanding job to support the success of the O&M team. Along with his dedication to lead the less motivated, he exhibited a real brotherhood and truly appreciated his opportunity in working with his crew and the County of Ventura.” – A coworker of Rudy’s.
Proud of his 35+ years of service, Rudy started working for the County in 1985 with GSA as a GSA Maintenance Worker II. He then moved to PWA in 1997 to become a Tree Trimmer I with PWA Road & Transportation, and was promoted to Tree Trimmer II. Finally, he became a Public Works Maintenance Worker III.
Rudy had a great sense of humor. “He was the comedian in the crew room,” said a colleague of Gonzales. “If you heard laughter coming out of the crew room, it was probably because Rudy said something crazy that would crack the room up!”
Rudy was also known as an animal lover. One coworker remembered fondly of a crow that sits outside Saticoy Yard, who Rudy liked to feed. Now whenever they see the crow, they think of Rudy and feel his kind spirit around them.
In celebration and memory of Rudy, we remember to always be kind, generous and thoughtful in our endeavors. We thank Rudy Gonzales for his dedication and commitment to the County of Ventura, and give our deepest condolences to his friends, family and loved ones.
