The Horizon View Mental Health Rehabilitation Center (MHRC) is a patient live-in facility located on the campus of the Camarillo Airport in Camarillo, California. Mental Health Rehabilitation Centers are certified 24-hour programs, licensed by the state, which provide support and rehabilitative services. When clients complete the program in this facility, they graduate to less intensive outpatient programs.
The facility operates 24 hours a day. It is staffed by nurses, doctors, dieticians, counselors, and administrators. Clients are inside the facility at all times. Therefore, the design of the space was critical to create a healing and therapeutic environment. It was very important to make use of natural lighting. Sonotube skylights were placed in all client bathrooms and hallways, large windows are in each of the patient bedrooms, and full height glass walls were installed wherever possible.
The new building is single story, approximately 15,000 square feet in size, and has 16 patient rooms. Included is administrative space, program space, resident bedrooms, a dining room, a commercial kitchen, and related support spaces. There is an outdoor yard with landscaping and a walking path.
